Where is the seamless integration for mobile to desktop?

We were talking the other day at work about how one of the users wants to work on her Word documents on her iPad at home. DropBox and SugarSync are close with having your documents everywhere, but you can’t edit those documents on an iPad and automatically have them sync back (unless the application is [...]

∞ WordPress isn’t a swiss army knife

I haven’t worked on many CMS platforms over my programming career. In fact, I have used 3; WordPress, MovableType, and QP7. I have looked at Drupal and Joomla, but was quickly confused and gave up so I can’t talk much about these. Of all three I have used, QP7 is the best. Why? It provides [...]

You don’t need a mobile app just a better web experience

People seem to have gone app crazy! Mobile apps are being created just so they can say that have an app. That is not what apps should be for. If you can do everything you want to in HTML and JavaScript, why spend the time and money creating an app? Make the mobile experience on [...]

A couple weeks ago I put in a request for more information to three vendors. One immediately responded via a bot with more sales material and no further [...]

The downside of using Open-Source in business

A few weeks back, we discovered a bug in a jQuery library. I won’t go into what library or the bug. A person already filed a bug and the fix. I check a week or two later and the bug wasn’t fixed yet. So I did what any developer would do, I sat down learned [...]

The feature that Facebook is missing

In Google Reader they call them Starred Items. In Twitter, they call them favorites. In Facebook, they have…. nothing. The biggest missing feature in Facebook is the ability to somehow go back to a list of items that you didn’t have time at that moment to look at, but want to look at more later [...]

Dear @redbox, .me and .name domains are valid domain names. Don’t tell me that my email address isn’t valid. #FAIL

Seriously, I have had my mikewills.name domain for about 3-4 years and mikewills.me for over a year. I know they are valid email addresses. At first I though it as a regex issue with 4 letter 1st level domains. Now I know you are checking it for “valid” domains. Unfortunately, that is full of #FAIL. [...]
